Really?!
As usual with medications promoted during the late 1800s, some folks actually found them helpful and their commendations filled product advertising. Evidence indicates one of the people helped by this formula was Dr. Seth Arnold, himself--probably the best endorsement of all. Here's a brief biography of Seth Arnold from Google Books:

In an attempt to separate Imperial Granum from the assorted grandiose claims of such nostrums as Dr. Seth Arnold's Balsom, the Imperial Granum Company made an interesting advertising decision (from Google Play) as reported in the American Medical Journalist, vol. 1, no.1:
